GOSA’s Guided Hikes Make an Impact with the Community

GOSA’s Community Outreach Committee did a fantastic job this year offering opportunities for Groton residents to enjoy the benefits and enjoyment of the outdoors. Our rewarding relationships with Groton Public Schools, Groton Parks and Recreation, and the Town of Groton has afforded us the opportunity to create programs incorporating guided hikes on Groton properties for children and adults. Many of the 800+ children who hiked with us this year have never been in the woods! Below is a summary of the breadth of outdoor influence we have had with our community through GOSA hosted hikes this year.

  • Groton Public Schools field trips: 7 hikes, 627 children, 50 staff/parent chaperones
  • Groton Parks & Recreation Summer Camp: 5 hikes, 206 children, 40 staff
  • Thrive 55+ (Adult Group): 3 hikes, 70 adults
  • National Trails Day: 1 hike, 40 adults/children + 3 dogs

We offered a total of 16 hikes for 1033 hikers. We look forward to offering more opportunities for guided hikes this Fall. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the planning and support for the hikes, and of course to our hikers. Fostering a love for nature and the environment is the best gift we can give!
