Hike with Markham Starr

November 11, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

November 11th, Saturday

For those who wish to see some of the many types of constructions built by New England’s indigenous population firsthand, join a guided walk through Avalonia’s Tefftweald property on Grindstone Hill Road in North Stonington. This nearly pristine location, bordering Wyassup Brook and Cool Breeze Farm, was an important ceremonial site long before it became a colonial farm or Girl Scout camp.

Access to parking is down the long, shared, private driveway approximately 8/10ths of a mile from Route 49 near the crest of a hill at 282 Grindstone Hill Road – look for the Avalonia sign posted on the left of the driveway just off the road.

Parking is down the driveway on the left, and we will leave this area at 9:00 AM for a tour of the grounds. While the area has many easily walked trails, some parts are steep and walking sticks are helpful.

The walk will take approximately 1.5 hours, and should it rain Saturday, we will meet the next day on Sunday morning at the same time.

Please, no pets.
