IWA Agenda For Wednesday Lists On-Site Wal-Mart Expansion

GROTON — The Inland Wetlands Agency agenda for Wednesday, July 28, 2010, lists an expansion application by Wal-Mart for 150 Goldstar Highway (Route 184),  the address of its current Groton site.

The agenda does not give further details.

In January 2009, Wal-Mart and Konover Development Corp. dropped an effort to build a new Wal-Mart supercenter at another location on Route 184, east of Antonino Road. The project had drawn sharp criticism as being too close to the Groton Utilities drinking water reservoir to be safe. Wal-Mart’s plans then had called for the 150 Goldstar Highway facility to be closed.
